Our eBook provides helpful information including what research says about CBD and 40 health conditions.

The fact that the FDA doesn’t confirm the efficacy of CBD products doesn’t mean there isn’t positive news being reported by researchers around the world. A recent article in Forbes by Emily Earlenbaugh provides details about a study noting that CBD might help individuals that are suffering severe lung inflammation from Covid-19.

The study from researchers at Augusta University in Georgia suggests that CBD may positively impact acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). ARDS is a dangerous symptom of Covid-19 caused by an overactive inflammatory response. This response is sometimes referred to as a cytokine storm.

The researchers suggest CBD may reduce pro-inflammatory cytokine production to reduce its impact on the lungs and respiratory system. “By reducing specific cytokines such as interleukin, we may be able to bring down the level of inflammation to reduce the respiratory distress and damage,” the researchers noted in their findings.

As part of the study, mice were given a treatment to artificially induce ARDS with symptoms similar to what we see in severe Covid-19 patients. This created a cytokine storm, reduced the blood oxygen saturation by 10 percent, and produced structural damage to the lungs. The mice were then given CBD and the symptoms were totally or partially reversed. The CBD treatment reversed all the inflammatory indices and partially re-established homeostasis. Mice treated with CBD also had increases in lymphocyte levels in their blood, which are important white blood cells for fighting infections.

The researchers say that CBD could play an immunotherapeutic role in treating severe respiratory viral infections like Covid-19, based on the present findings. They recommend additional studies to help expand and validate the potential therapeutic strategy that CBD may reduce Covid-19 respiratory distress.
